Istanbul Gelisim University, in collaboration with the Turkish and Foreign Language Application and Research Center, organized the "Sustainability in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language in the 21st Century - 2nd Workshop." The workshop consisted of two sessions and was structured around 8 committees and 8 topics.
The first workshop, organized by the Turkish and Foreign Language Application and Research Center, was held in 2022 with the aim of teaching Turkish to foreign nationals coming from abroad to study at higher education institutions, organizing courses in needed foreign languages, and conducting necessary documentation and material studies. On June 15, 2023, the 2nd Workshop on "Sustainability in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language in the 21st Century" was held, and the protocol speeches were delivered by Prof. Dr. Bahri Şahin, the Rector of Istanbul Gelisim University, and Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Güzel, a faculty member at Başkent University.
With the participation of 64 attendees from 25 different universities in Turkey, the workshop comprised two sessions and was structured around 8 committees and 8 topics.
The workshop addressed various subtopics, including challenges and solutions encountered in institutions teaching Turkish as a foreign language, issues related to the utilization of approaches, methods, and techniques, difficulties and recommendations in material preparation and usage, as well as problems and solutions in teaching fundamental language skills such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking in Turkish as a foreign language instruction. Additionally, the workshop delved into challenges and recommendations regarding grammar instruction in this context.
The aim is to conduct an overall assessment and report on the workshop outcomes, which will then be presented to the relevant authorities.
